POINT 6-ANTI-DRUG: ANTI-CRIME PROGRAM: DEVELOPMENT OF ANTI-ADDICTIVE SUBSTITUTE DRUGS UNDER DOCTORS SUPERVISION
Much of our crime is being committed by drug abusers. At present most of this terrible problem has been burdened upon our police. I propose sharing the burden with our doctors. It is the doctors who are most aware of how to deal with the psychological ramifications of these drugs, and I believe we should give them more responsibility to solve the situation.
This would greatly expand the need for doctors which would have an exhilarating effect on our society. More people in the medical profession would mean more medical information dispersed among the general populace, thus, creating a healthier and happier society that would not need to take drugs for extra support.
Development of anti-addictive substitute drugs, for instance, would have to be coordinated with programs to take people off drugs. It would allow the police to concentrate on the hardened criminals and psychological deviates to make our society a safer place to live in.
One possible program is to sell (taxed) anti-addictive substitute drugs through pharmacies by prescription only. This, plus enforceable laws would encourage those who abuse drugs to seek medical advice as well as provide additional funds for drug rehabilitation programs. The purpose would be to get control of the increasing drug problem and to develop a society free from drugs.
I believe a concerted effort should be undertaken to develop a substantial program to discourage and eventually eliminate the abuse of drugs in our society through medical supervision.
